Fall is a time of dread for many since it means summer is over, and winter, if not knocking on the door, will soon be in the neighborhood. For motorists, it means sunny drives to the beach are now memories, and days of navigating slick winter roads are in the cards. However, Fall also means you have time to get your vehicle ready for whatever lies ahead. You can start with what’s staring you in the face.
Wiper blades get much use here in the greater Atlanta area. However, even where they’re not in use, those hot, dry days we are known for can accelerate wear. You’ll know yours are worn if they squeak or chatter, leave streaks or smears or even miss portions of the area they cover. Replace them now, and with proper care, they’ll get you through the rest of autumn, as well as winter, spring, and next summer too.
Is nothing peskier than starting up your car on a crisp autumn morning and seeing the tire pressure sensor warning light wishing you top of the morning? The air in the tires is sensitive to temperature. That’s why your tires may begin to look a bit deflated as the nights get cooler. They lose one or two tsp per ten-degree drop in temperature.
Beat the light this year and check your tire pressure for yourself. Your owner’s manual or door panels list the recommended tire pressure. Add air even if it’s one psi low. If at all possible, do this when the tires are cold since even a mile’s drive can heat them up. While you’re at it, check the depth of your tire treads. They are what will be keeping your car on the road on those icy drives home, and as if you haven’t noticed our area has been getting more of these in recent years. If you don’t have a measuring tool, you can use the old, can you see Lincoln’s hair on a penny? Just to be safe, get an honest opinion from one of the certified technicians at Carriage House Kia in Gainesville.
If you were having air conditioning problems last summer, you might experience heating issues as well. Turn on the heat or better yet, mention it to the service manager at Carriage House. Remember, the HVAC system will not only be charged with keeping you warm this winter, but you’ll also need it to defrost your windows.
You probably already thought of this, but have it tested now, and if necessary, replace it. You’ll thank yourself when your engine turns over on the first crank on the coldest day of the year.
Other items on the to-do list improve checking all your fluid levels, including wiper fluid; and checking all your lights — tail, brake, and headlamps. If this list is looking too long for your schedule to handle, turn the whole job over to Carriage House Kia. Our state-of-the-art facility is in Gainesville, a short drive away from Alpharetta, Cascade Wood, and Cumming, GA.
