Kia Sportspace Concept Takes the Estate Wagon to the Next Level
If you grew up in the era before the rise of the minivan, then your family likely had a station wagon as its primary vehicle. Then, once minivans and SUVs came around, station wagons weren’t very popular anymore. But, Kia is working to make the station wagon awesome again with the Sportspace Concept set to debut in Geneva.
With this athletic, sleek design, Kia hints at a redesign of the Optima, including the possible addition of an estate wagon model. Kia says the Sportspace was “designed for fast and efficient travel with maximum comfort and minimal stress, in the best grand touring tradition of the weekend getaway.”
The Sportspace features Kia’s signature “tiger grille,” but with a bolder, more upright appearance. Then, the headlights and windshield are swept back to give it a sleek, aerodynamic look. The sporty feels continues inside with a flat-bottomed steering wheel and heavily-bolstered seats.
“We set out to design a car that is a totally new breed of grand tourer – one for active people who need reasonable cargo space on the weekend, but don’t want to compromise moving around in style, comfort and with an element of sportiness,” explains Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer Europe.
The Kia Sportspace Concept will debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3,2015. Check out other sporty designs at Carriage Kia!
