Most Kia cars are powered by compact four-cylinder engines that are designed for economical performance. Gasoline direct injection (GDI) is a traditional technology that manages the delivery of fuel and air into the engine blocks. The Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) also keeps the valve train running at proper intervals. Select models are available with turbocharged engines that are optimized for explosive acceleration and sporty handling on any track. A single-scroll turbocharger generates a sufficient boost for quick takeoffs in normal driving conditions.

The automatic and manual transmission systems in Kia vehicles typically include six fixed gear ratios. You can use the Sportmatic function to minimize delays while hunting for the ideal gear sequence. Additionally, the turbo engines are usually synced with a transmission system that operates on dual clutches. As expected, most of the compact Kia vehicles are fitted with a traditional front-wheel drive (FWD) system. However, the Dynamax All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is optional in some of the crossover SUVs, such as the Sportage. This dynamic drivetrain includes a center locking differential that controls torque distribution among the front and rear axles. Tuned for steady handling on any road, a motor-driven power steering system is another common installation in Kia models.

Kia equips some of its models with an infotainment system that’s loaded with the UVO eServices suite. GPS navigation software is included in this multimedia console that’s available with an 8.0-inch or 7.0-inch touch screen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay enhance the overall utility of the UVO eServices platform. Wireless Bluetooth is another smartphone-optimized technology in many Kia cars. Most models also come with SiriusXM Satellite Radio and HD Radio receivers. Hundreds of music channels could be played on premium audio systems by Harman Kardon, which is available with more than 10 speakers. Some of these signature sound systems include the Clari-Fi technology that eliminates noise interference from outside sources. The QuantumLogic feature also enhances acoustics in select Kia trims.

Regardless of their price tags, nearly all Kia vehicles are equipped with conventional safety technology. The Vehicle Stability Management works with the Electronic Stability Control to improve handling in hazardous situations. Select trims offer numerous accident-avoidance features that provide extra levels of alertness and confidence. For example, the Autonomous Emergency Braking decreases the risk of a forward crash. The Advanced Smart Cruise Control could be programmed to break bad tailgating habits. Working in sync with the Blind Spot Detection, the Lane Change Assist identifies vehicles that suddenly approach you from the side. Whether you’re backing up or trying to make a sharp turn, the Surround View Monitor will help you make good decisions. This monitor shows multiple perspectives of your surroundings in real time.
