We’ve been patiently awaiting the release of the new 2019 Kia Forte in its redesigned form for this model year. Most noticeable will be its design, where it has transformed into a sporty and confident sedan. The new Forte will also feature it’s first ever Intelligent Variable Transmission which is designed to increase fuel efficiency compared to previous models. Drivers can also expect a plethora of up-to-date tech, comfort and convenience features. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly and fuel efficient vehicle, consider the 2018 Kia Forte as well. For the 2018 model year, the Forte LX now features cruise control and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Forte S gets new 16-inch wheels and a technology package that includes a sunroof, while the EX trim level gets Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Detection. In order to assist car shoppers in their decision making process, here are some of the main similarities and differences between the 2018 and 2019 Kia Forte.

Powertrain

For 2018, drivers can choose two different engine sizes. First is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine in the LX, S, and EX, models that puts out 147 horsepower, 132 lb-ft of torque while providing an EPA estimated 29 city and 37 highway miles per gallon in automatic models. For even more power, choose the 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that puts out 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque while providing an EPA estimated 23 city 29 highway miles per gallon in manual models and 25 city and 30 highway miles per gallon in automatic models. For 2019, the Kia forte will feature a second-generation 2.0-liter Nu 4-cylinder engine that utilizes the Atkinson Cycle Technology and cooled EGR system that boosts fuel efficiency. This new power plant can be paired with a 6-speed manual or Intelligent Variable Transmission. Horsepower and torque will likely remain unchanged from the 2018 model, delivering an estimated 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The biggest improvement is with the IVT transmission which is expected to bump up the fuel efficiency to a combined 35 MPG, which is about 3 MPG greater than that of 2018 models.

Cabin Comfort

While both the 2018 and 2019 Kia Forte are equipped with a plethora of comfort and convenience features in the cabin, for 2019 Kia adds more space where it’s needed most. Overall length of the Forte is increased by 3.2 inches in 2019 models, which adds more legroom and cargo space. With 15.1 cubic feet or cargo space, it has one of the largest cargo capacities in its class, allowing you to haul all of your gear for weekend trips. Overall headroom is increased thanks to the overall height increasing to 56.7 inches and an increased width to 70.8 inches. The new interior design gives the cabin a fresh and spacious look. The horizontal theme creates a sense of openness and conveniently placed buttons below the 8-inch touchscreen display gives the interior an uncluttered look. Notable optional equipment in both model years includes leather upholstery, navigation, power moonroof and LED lights.

Convenience and Technology Features

Kia is committed to providing drivers with some of the most up-to-date tech features in the market. Staying connected with technology allows the driver to pay attention to the road. That’s why the new Forte comes equipped with a standard 8-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. With select smartphones, this technology allows you to read SMS text messages aloud through the Bluetooth connectivity. New features include an available wireless charging station perched up on the center stack as well as an available 320-watt premium sound system by Harman Kardon. The Kia Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) adds Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), and Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

If you’re in the market for a modern, reliable, and fuel efficient sedan, then look no further than the 2018 and 2019 Kia Forte.
