In 1977, David participated in, and won, the United States Skill Olympics automotive competition sponsored by the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA). |
After winning his local, state, and national VICA competitions, David was invited to participate in the International finals in Utrecht , Holland . While at the Netherlands ' 4-day competition, he outpointed competitors from Germany , Italy , England , France , Spain and Holland . As a result of being honored as the World Champion Automotive Technician, David was offered a position with General Motors at their Proving Ground facility in Michigan . He went on to earn his Mechanical Engineering degree and spent 16 years as an engineer with GM.
